Corner Utility Room Shelf - Battens or Brackets?

Thanks fo ryour detailed response. I need to find the time to work on it, but will hopefully do over the next few weeks. If I have any specific follow ups I'll let you know. I think I'll go with the battens and a single L shaped bracket underneath at each end. I've bought a Bosch wire...

    Balancing CH with Smart TRVs

So far so good. Getting very hot rads now and a much warmer room even though it's very cold out side (based in London). Was a surprise to me that air in the rads isn't apparent immediately once you open the valve. I had to let out a good 1l or more from the rads to get to the point when the...

    Balancing CH with Smart TRVs

Separately I think I've figured it out. What is often the most obvious is the answer. I have bled the radiators many times before but all things equal, what would the root cause of a radiator be for not heating? Air in the rad. So I decided to bleed the radiators again and turned the valve...

    Balancing CH with Smart TRVs

How do I know which is which? Is the inbound on the success of the circuit closest to the previous radiator? If so I think the circuit would be coming from the right so the inflow is in the right

    Balancing CH with Smart TRVs

Also, I've realised my towel rail has two manual "lockshield-type" valves. When I turn them both to the max, the towel rail gets very hot. But if I want to set it to pass through a reasonable amount of flow (given it's quite far from the boiler at this point), how do I know which to open maybe...

    Balancing CH with Smart TRVs

The installing plumber was competent and no concerns. But I've also had my very competent plumber who services the boiler every year check it out a while back and nothing untoward was found. Would having them installed the wrong way around make them work badly or not at all? These are the...

    Balancing CH with Smart TRVs

I'm afraid I've already done that and I get luke warm rads.

    Balancing CH with Smart TRVs

So you mean shut off the TRV or lockshield valves? With the smart thermostat system, Tado, I can control when the TRVs are on and off. Typically during the day when I'm working from home so others TRVs are off and just the loft is on (and just luke warm)

    Balancing CH with Smart TRVs

What I can't understand is the towel radiator in the loft gets too hot to touch where as the vertical radiators in the loft are luke warm, sometimes a bit hot but not hot all over. The pipework from the first floor to the loft should be very straight forward - no obstructions to get around...

I assume so - how do I check. Not sure what you mean by Manf Bumf Unvented system I believe - updated original post.

    Balancing CH with Smart TRVs

Hi, I'm sure balancing CH systems has been asked millions of times and I've read and followed many guides on how to do so but still struggling with heating our loft. Problem: Radiators in the loft are only getting luke warm Background: We live in a typical semi-detached house with a loft...

Vent Axia Extractor Fan not working - "twitching"

So I finally got around to taking out the extractor fan (can't do during the week and my wife and I both work from home so can't be without power) There was no obvious sign of burnout, but I went ahead and swapped out the capacitor mentioned in the previous link. It took a while due to my...

Corner Utility Room Shelf - Battens or Brackets?

Hi, I'm planning on installing 24mm thick X 800mm long X 300mm deep shelves in my utility room (https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/tranhult-shelf-white-stained-aspen-60454899/) and have some questions about fixing. The long and short wall for the left shelves (1) are newly installed plasterboard...

Vent Axia Extractor Fan not working - "twitching"

So I've been convinved to buy a multimeter and to use the voltmeter as a good first non-contact test. Can someone recommend a good multimeter please? What about https://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-ac-dc-digital-multimeter-600v/75337 or...

Did you forget a word right after "switched"? I assume you meant to say switched on

Vent Axia Extractor Fan not working - "twitching"

Can you elaborate on how to do this please?

Vent Axia Extractor Fan not working - "twitching"

So I've ordered a pack of 5 Panasonic capacitors for £2.29 from eBay and will see if that is indeed the issue and if not replace the entire fan. Regarding the multimeter -v- volt meter, for DIY purposes I believe the volt meter to be more suitable - a multimeter has more features and therefore...

Vent Axia Extractor Fan not working - "twitching"

Can you suggest a good multimeter please? I'm not sure if the cheapest one on Screwfix is any good or not: https://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-ac-dc-digital-multimeter-600v/75337 So isolation switch turned on (so live) with the fan cover off and flick the fan blade in the right direction? I'm...

Vent Axia Extractor Fan not working - "twitching"

Thanks for the detail. However in my scenario whereby I just need to remove the fan safely, replace a capacitor and reinstall, wouldn't a voltage detector be sufficient? I just need to be able to work safely rather than diagnose a circuit fault.
