Anyone Know What This (Ed: Electronic part) Is Called?

Yes, the meter is similar. The solder joints look fine, just the browning to front and back on both joints which originally made me think component failure. No other signs of failure of any other components.

Anyone Know What This (Ed: Electronic part) Is Called?

Retested Sunray, using 200 The reading is a solid 22.2 I'm assuming after moving the decimal point that the 200 means, as suspected by most, the resistor is fine?

Detlef. Getting the same with one end disconnected. Different reading each time and reading immediately going to 1

Anyone Know What This (Ed: Electronic part) Is Called?

Thanks for all the replies, sorry for the delay, I have it set to notify me if answered but no notifications. Sunray, yes I have a multimeter At 20k I'm getting a different reading every time, anything from 6. something to 19. something but the reading goes back down to 1 every time despite...

Anyone Know What This (Ed: Electronic part) Is Called?

Well, in 2017 I was on here asking about fan capacitors. Blow me down (pun intended) here I am again with a similar question. Manrose 'Gold' timer fan, started surging but worked perfectly on timer, so no bearing issues. Eventually it just stopped all together (strangely straight after I'd...

    Will My DPM Work

Thanks for the reply JohnD. Sorry, my first pic was sh*^e!! I have tried again. The right hand side of the shed, which is level with the ground, doesn't appear to have a problem. I need to put a concrete fillet from the concrete path to the outer cladding to stop water ingressing...

    Will My DPM Work

Hi all. I have a timber framed shed/workshop sitting on a concrete slab. I have serious damp rot and woodworm in the perimeter base timber I put around the edge of the concrete slab for the uprights to sit on. I can replace this timber in sections by jacking the shed up slightly. As you can see...

    Shaver socket

UPDATE Noticed a bulge in the capacitor, also capacitor was showing 84 Ohms and apparently there should be no reading if it is good. Bought a new one, showed no reading. Fitted it to the fan.............................................................................nothing :-( Either the...

    Fan Capacitor

Hi John. Post #1 has a link to the type of fan, no timer. Post #5 explains that the fan blades spin freely and that there was no noise change before the fan stopped.

    Fan Capacitor

Now the drunken weekend tom foolery hijacking is over......................................:-) Do you mean the capacitor is like a starter motor? If I spin the fan blades manually they will keep spinning if themotor is good?

    Fan Capacitor

I'm sruggling to find my multi meter. I'll have another look, otherwise i'll borrow one and get back to you. Ta.

    Fan Capacitor

I've disconnected the capacitor and no change. If you are saying the fan can run with or without the capacitor connected and an old fan works when connected to the power I take it the motor is shot?

    Fan Capacitor

I'm not assuming it's the capacitor. It's just the easiest thing to start with. The fan spins freely, no grinding noise before it stopped so I would think it's either the motor given up or the capacitor.

    Fan Capacitor

Hi Winston. I've been up the loft and disconnected the fan and connected the old fan from downstairs. It runs fine so it is without doubt the fan at fault. The downstairs and upstairs bathrooms are on a completely different circuit so no chance of affecting one by messing with the other.

    Fan Capacitor

Me again. Amazing. Just as I'm working on the downstairs bathroom the upstairs bathroom fan stops! Its an old version of this https://www.screwfix.com/p/manrose-mf100-100mm-mixed-flow-fan/26867 Under the cover is a capacitor that looks like this...

Well, thanks for all the replies, I've learnt plenty.

    Shaver socket

As in, in place of but still resembling a pull switch. I've only seen plug in clappers. I'm assuming they too would need a permanent live to the actual clapper? And don't I know it. My upstairs bathroom one made a row as the plaster board was acting like a sound board. I searched for a 'silent'...

    Shaver socket

Hear hear So work outside the zones is non notifiable? As in putting my shaver socket nowhere near the bath. BTW do they do a clapper switch in the form of what would be a pull switch?

    Shaver socket

Correct, any part of a circle is the radius. Well, another thing learnt. No zone around basin taps but a huge zone around bath taps? Perhaps the 'inventors' of these regs expect amorous shenanigans when bathing!!

No, but I know what you mean :-) I was looking at this...
