:) Seriously, though, any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Crack in wall/ceiling

To bump a very old thread, the crack stayed much as it was for a year plus. I've now noticed, though, that if I lean on one side of the crack it gets slightly (maybe a mm) wider and there is a hollow sound when I tap round there. Does that mean an issue with plasterboards/blown plaster seems...

Optima compact alarm - clicking noise

Thanks - will try today or tomorrow. When the panel is off at the mains can I assume the external bell will be too?

Thanks. Here it is https://photos.app.goo.gl/PePjzMiBntzTojaZ6 I need to get it open?

Optima compact alarm - clicking noise

There's a box at the front of the house with a light on it. Would that be it?

Optima compact alarm - clicking noise

Thanks. This is the bell, but I guess you'd need a photo of it partly disassembled? https://photos.app.goo.gl/iyEfdo5xTqm5EcECA

Optima compact alarm - clicking noise

Thanks. Images are here https://photos.app.goo.gl/CeXNFBTH2gjfkoDG9 There's the whole PCB, and I've zoomed on on what I think is the battery, and the fuse I removed. Sorry, couldn't get them to upload to the forum. With the bell/strobe fuse removed, the alarm has the spanner and unlocked LEDs...

Optima compact alarm - clicking noise

Thanks. Battery not replaced sine I moved in 18 months ago. Could this cause the issue? I thought it was likely the battery until removing a fuse had this effect. Will post a pic tomorrow. It's at least silent now, so don't want to risk causing problems before bed!

Optima compact alarm - clicking noise

I've got an Optima compact alarm panel, with a siren in the kitchen. I came home today and the panel and bell were making a weird clicking noise. Entering codes did nothing. I disconnected the panel from mains and took the fuses out of the panel to check for any issues (no tamper alarm triggered...

LED bulbs for bathroom - can just get standard ones?

I'm replacing bulbs in two bathrooms with LEDs (g9 and gu10). I can just use standard bulbs for this? The light fittings look appropriate for bathrooms. Sorry if this is a daft question - wasn't sure if I need IP65 bulbs or anything

Setting water and heater temperature on boiler and cylinder

Thanks - that's really useful! I've got the water temp set to 60C mainly for hygiene purposes (to stop legionnaires etc). I think it's well over 45C out the taps - maybe because the pipes are well lagged - but I might get a mixer tap to resolve this...

Setting water and heater temperature on boiler and cylinder

Thanks both! You're right - not a Vaillant cylinder. So is the idea to set the flow temperature to 70 now and then turn it down in summer?

Setting water and heater temperature on boiler and cylinder

My Vaillant ecotec plus 428 boiler lets me set both water temperature and heating temperature. My hot water cylinders also have a thermostat on them. I want the hot water in the cylinders at 60C. I've currently got the thermostats on the cylinders at 60 and the water temperature on the boiler...

Putting LED bulbs in old light fitting

I've got quite a few light fittings like these in the house (not on dimmer switches or anything). They were put in by a previous owner. I know that they may not be compatible with LED replacement bulbs, but is it safe to just put LEDs in and see if there are any problems? Thanks!

Moss on concrete garage roof - clean and coat, or not?

Thanks. The rain should still run into the gutter fine - it was more whether damaging the edge of the concrete means the gap is likely to grow, or it'll just be as strong (or fragile) as it was before...

Moss on concrete garage roof - clean and coat, or not?

Thanks - will look again at copper. As in the picture, something has took a piece off the edge of one of the concrete panels. Is this likely to cause problems, or just something I can leave? It's not in a position where it'll cause a leak or anything, assuming it doesn't get worse.

Moss on concrete garage roof - clean and coat, or not?

Sorry - more exciting roof news... I've noticed that a bit of concrete was knocked off the edge at some point - see picture. Maybe in some of the storms we've had. It's nowhere that's going to cause a leak, but does this make a difference to roof longevity - or OK to still leave as is? Thanks!

Moss on concrete garage roof - clean and coat, or not?

Thanks! I'd heard arguments along those lines, and if I was scraping moss off myself they would convince me to take precautions. I'm less sure how this applies to moss birds have picked off, though! I know the birds may face some exposure when pecking off the moss, but I'd guess wild birds...

Moss on concrete garage roof - clean and coat, or not?

At the risk of asking a stupid question - there are random bits of moss in my garden, and I'd guess some have been taken off the roof by birds. Are possible asbestos fibres there a worry? I've attached pics of more and less mossy parts of the roof. How tricky would it be to lay a copper strip...
