Timer knob not advancing Indesit dishwasher

My Indesit dishwasher has just developed a problem whereby the timer knob doesn't self advance. If I click it around manually then the dishwasher appears to work. It fills, washes and pumps out but only if I turn the knob myself. I'm hesitating to replace the control knob as these things are...

Central heating always on but no hot water

Thanks Tony. I've removed one of the motor wires (the blue one) but the spring hasn't pulled the valve closed. This means the valve is stuck open. This is turn means the microswitch is always closed which will always fire up the boiler and pump independent of whether or not the timer is active...

Central heating always on but no hot water

Thanks for the tips. The motor is permanently humming on the heating valve. When the valve is fully open should the microswitch contacts be open or closed? If I remove power from the valve am I right in assuming that it should return to the closed position by virtue of the spring?

I know that one end of the winding is permanntly connected to the live mains supply - if this were to short-circuit for any reason then I could understand the heating being on all the time. What if it simply...

Central Heating on all the time

My central heating system has just started misbehaving. It's on all the time, the house is like a sauna. Checked room stat is turned down and programmer unit is off, but the boiler still fires up, pump runs, radiators are hot permanently. Any ideas? The oil-fired boiler is a Boulter Camray...
