    problem with toilet ballvalve

OK, thanks for much for your replies Andy. I did put washers on along with the backnuts, but as you suggest I will test again tomorrow for leaks and might just run a bit of silicon around for good measure. It's a bit hard to tell if it leaks or not because the cold where the feed comes in...

    problem with toilet ballvalve

Not sure how much help these'll be, but here goes... the first three is of one toilet, the second three the other (although as you'll see they have near-identical components inside.) [/img]

    problem with toilet ballvalve

In both our toilets the ballvalves had given up the ghost (we live in a very hard water area where everything gets really scaled up) and we were getting a constant drip out of both overflows. Rather than bothering re-washering them etc. I just bought a couple of new valves and fitted them...

Drayton TRV4 - closing the valve?

OK, thanks for the replies guys. I've got the system running just now and that rad is blasting away fully (obviously with no thermostat to regulate it), so as it it very rarely used I'll shut it off via the lockshield tomorrow. Thanks again.

Drayton TRV4 - closing the valve?

Hi all, I have several of these TRVs on rads throughout the house, but one has become really damaged and is no good any more. I've taken it off (unscrewing the collar underneath etc) but do not have the decorator's cap/dust cap/manual closing cap to close it up properly. I've tried a few...

    Problem with toilet flush valve

Thanks for the reply. Yep, it probably is a bit different than it was before - as long as the water level was below the overflow I wasn't too fussy. I was actually going to experiment with it at different heights -- maybe lower the float to the point where the minimum level of water comes in...

    Problem with toilet flush valve

A few days ago I replaced the old, leaking ball valves/floats on my 2 toilets with new fluidmaster ones. The new ones work great, but seem to have highlighted another problem: after flushing, the toilets are prone to running. With these new, sharper, quicker ballvalves installed, the cisterns...

Mixer tap - how to open up?

Bahco & Softus: thanks for the replies. I think I may well just get a plumber in to sort this, especially also as my toilet "repairs" seem to have worked out less successful than hoped. I know a guy who's pretty fair and should be able to come in and do the taps & toilets without much bother...

Mixer tap - how to open up?

OK... an update on this after a weekend of DIY (including repairing 2 toilets that may/may not be working now) and more than a few trips to Wickes. After undoing the black nut (see pic in 1st post again) all I saw was the red spindle bit going back further into a moulded red unit (didn't take...

Mixer tap - how to open up?

Thanks for all the replies, everyone... I'll keep working on this one! Dazza.

Mixer tap - how to open up?

OK, thanks... I have thought about completely replacing the tap, but the people who put this place together have made it virtually impossible to get in there without having to do some major surgery on the under-sink unit. So, ideally cartridge replacements might be the way to go -- I'm just not...

Mixer tap - how to open up?

Ah... OK... so no need to photo my sink full of dirty dishes, then :) OK... here's a few pics...the first is as the one in the earlier post, but this time with the handle screwed back on and the cover replaced. The others are just a general capture of the taps & spout: one two...

Mixer tap - how to open up?

Ok, thanks. Will take (and post) a pic tomorrow morning -- just of the whole tap/sink area, do you mean? (i.e. 2 mixer tap handles / spout)? Dazza

Mixer tap - how to open up?

Hi - I have a dripping mixer tap in the kitchen. Today I turned off the water to take a look, and starting with the hot one (as I don't know which of the 2 is the problem.) I took off the tap cover and unscrewed & removed the handle. This is where I got stumped, as I was greeted with this...

Changing diverter valve/O rings: help needed

It's a high-pitched screeching noise that often comes on when the CH is running and a hot tap is then turned on. Turning off the CH for a while is the only way to stop it. I posted a week or two back regarding trying some X200 in the boiler, but someone reckoned a faulty diverter valve was...

Changing diverter valve/O rings: help needed

Looking to change O rings/diverter valve on my Potterton Performa 24 - anyone got a link to info on how best to do this (I haven't done it before, so would appreciate a step-by-step)? Also, best places to get the parts from? Thanks.

Using Sentinel X200 - Help Needed

Thanks for that - I did a search on the main page and also the forums... does anyone have any particular links (either to threads on here, or elsewhere online)? Will this be difficult/expensive to sort? Thanks again.

Using Sentinel X200 - Help Needed

Thanks for the reply - I did look for the cartridge version, but the shop (B&Q) didn't have it. I'll look elsewhere. Is it pretty obvious how it all connects to the boiler using the filling loop?

Using Sentinel X200 - Help Needed

Season's Greetings, It's my first post here, and I need a bit of advice. My Potterton Performa 24 (recently serviced, and only a few years old) now often makes a loud whistling/screeching noise - usually happens when the heating is on and then a tap (normally hot) is turned on, and the...
