Can I 'flatten' traditional oil based gloss?

I stockpiled some F&B original formula, oil based eggshell when it was discontinued and am now redecorating with it. Only one tin isn't eggshell, it's gloss that must have been wrongly labelled. Is there anything I can add to 'flatten' it? Thanks in anticipation.

Can I use Wallrock over existing lining paper?

Thank you. Sorted - old paper is off, plasterer coming in next week.

Can I use Wallrock over existing lining paper?

Thank you for that. Much appreciated. I brought a sample of the Wallrock Thermal back with me and must admit was already having doubts about handling it. Couldn't see how you turn an external corner with it and see what you mean about creasing. We're going to take step back and decide what to...

Can I use Wallrock over existing lining paper?

Thanks. I've just called in to trade decorating supplies store where they've advised I use Wallrock Thermal liner to overcome the unevenness but said I would have to take the original paper off as the wallrock adhesive would pull the lining paper off (that was applied with traditional...

Can I use Wallrock over existing lining paper?

Wall has lining paper on for about 5 years, good, emulsioned, not lifting anywhere but it wasn't heavy enough to make good job. I want a better finish. Don't really want to take it off for fear of damaging plaster, which had some surface cracks in the skim as I recall. Can I use a smooth...

Trade paint supplier - given right/wrong advice????

So I went back to swap the water based primer for solvent based - supplier clearly thinks I'm barking - made a point of calling out to other customers, "anyone ever heard of using oil based paints on MDF?" She still insisted I should use acrylic primer and only then was it 'safe' to put an oil...

Trade paint supplier - given right/wrong advice????

Thanks Robbie. I thought it seemed odd but paint finishes seem to change every year and I'm a traditionalist - so wondered if I was missing something.

Trade paint supplier - given right/wrong advice????

So confused. Trade paint supplier was horrified today when I wanted to buy oil based primer for project in mix of MDF and pine. She said I MUST use a water based acrylic primer as the oil based would make the MDF 'blow'. But I'd read on kitchen maker forums that they recommend oil primers...

Any advantage? Over-board in 12mm or new subfloor of 25mm

Thanks for a really helpful reply. My only concern with laying new WBP boards directly onto joists is about sheet size. I assume for maximum strength we need to use the largest size boards with the minimum number of joints? Getting large sheet ply into the room is going to be an issue...

Any advantage? Over-board in 12mm or new subfloor of 25mm

Tiling bathroom - large format (450sq) porcelain tiles. Existing floorboards old, butchered over the years, many in short lengths and with tongues missing. I've read the sticky and I think our options are 1. Replace the floorboards and then over board with 12mm WBP ply 2. Remove the...

Are there any decent freestanding baths?

The freestanding Duravit does look good but £2k is a bit over budget! (ours isn't a plush house!!!) I see a lot of Clearwater baths around. Is that a decent make?

Are there any decent freestanding baths?

Read a lot here about poor design and quality in modern freestanding baths. Is it the general concept that's flawed? Do you have to go to cast iron or stone resin to get decent quality? If good quality acrylic then do I look for separate skirt or all in one? Legs or to the floor? Replacing a...

Electric towel radiator - prep for electrician

Thanks for the responses. We had new distribution board fitted 2 yrs ago so RCDs no problem. Not doing the wiring ourselves - just needed advice whether to leave access to main or lighting circuit so we could get boarding done over weekend. Now clear on that so thank you.

Electric towel radiator - prep for electrician

Just needed to put holes thru stud and leave feeder cords in place ready to pull cable thru. Not sure whether they would need to go up to loft (ready to come off lighting circuit) or down (ready to come off ring). Have to say, we won't be wiring up - leaving that to the pros - but just...

How to remove silk screened pattern from glass

Thanks for suggestions on this. Bit the bullet an replaced the door - could only get plain glass factory fitted (shame) so using 'privacy' window film in plain etched style. Much better than ******ing about trying to alter the first one.

Electric towel radiator - prep for electrician

Hi We're reboarding the stud wall to our bathroom and want to add an electric towel warmer/radiator. When ready we will be getting electrician in to wire this and to do new lighting. The towel rad is 500W - will the electrician need to take this off the main ring or off the lighting...
