not sure. how can i tell that? there is the Amps adjuster and a reset button (which at current configuration is non latching and releases contactor only when button held in) and a screwdriver-worn dial next to the reset button

You may well be right. the bathroom location for suppl. bonding makes perfect sense. Will check with plumber to see if he has any reason other than "we have always done it this way"! Can´t be a bad thing to strap across the earthy mass of copper though can it. BUT this doesn´t get me any closer...

thinking about it the timer "signal" was also wired via the NC contacts on the contactor piggyback overload protection device before energising the coil

Not sure. Will you enlighted me as to which I should be aiming at... I think perhaps it is one of these historical things where all boilers seem to have bonding nearby and when the plumber decided to rip out all the pipework when installing new the he seems to think it requires same bonding to...

Am unsure to the following: the very nice plumber chap who gives me loads of jobs quite often calls and says that there is another boiler that needs bonding and by-the-way the stat needs moving or changing to something more modern sort of thing, none of which is ever a problem technically. So...

Thanks for all the info. Just a couple of things... are these protection device add-ons required for single phase motors as well as 3-phase? i guess the protectors come in various current ratings for different size motors...or?

Hope someone can shine a light on a box of tricks, buss-bar mounted Merlin Gerin and Telemecanique switch gear. Talking 3-phase also. mostly Ca and D type MCBs to drive compressor pump and smaller motor for cooler system. There is a 3-phase contactor with some sort of piggy-back module...
