Your knowledge required on new heating set up please

thanks for the quick response. I did not realise that the TRV's were a must? We have basic TRV's at the moment and I wondered if these would be suitable? They may not take the higher pressure? I'm about to have a look at the Alpha combi.... I take they are a good unit? Cheers

Your knowledge required on new heating set up please

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice from the huge knowledge base on here and hope someone can help me out. Our old Baxi boiler has finally had it and it's time to replace it. When I say it's had what I mean is it has another gas leak and I've decided that it's becoming too frequent so...

Needing help in replacing ye olde boiler - where do I start?

Good plan! I was having a look at some of the models available. I'm not sure if I have this right or not? but it looks like I need a fairly small combi. Currently I have an output of 11.14kw and some of the smaller ones are about 18kW Am I correct in thinking this is suitable for me? I'm...

Needing help in replacing ye olde boiler - where do I start?

Sorry, forgot to add that on the boiler it states "heat input - 15.15kW Heat output - 11.14kW" I'm not sure if this information is useful or not? Thanks

Needing help in replacing ye olde boiler - where do I start?

Good evening all, I'm hoping I can get some help from the wealth of knowledge here. We had a gas leak today and called out Transco who confirmed the leak and condemned the boiler. In the past 2 years there has been at least 4 separate leaks from 2 areas and so it's finally time to call it a...

Desludging my old system, drain the lot or just enough?

knowing me I'd get the last job without a mark and then *bingo* it will indeed hit the carpet....

Desludging my old system, drain the lot or just enough?

Aha, yes I can now see that this would happen. Thanks for the info. I was hoping I wouldn't need to take any radiators off to wash them out? Should the chemical start to move the stuff and I'll feel the radiators getting hotter? Sorry for being a nuisance.

Desludging my old system, drain the lot or just enough?

Thanks for the fast replies. My thinking was I could just open the drain valve and just let it run out and continuously refill - i.e. this should help to wash out a little of the sludge? Is this a bad idea? Very good point about the header tank needing cleaned - I'll do that first. I...

Desludging my old system, drain the lot or just enough?

Radiators in my house are not warming up correctly, they get hot at the top but cold at the bottom. Anyhow, I have some Fernox desludger to add the the system which is an older boiler with hot water storage tank and radiator circuit with a small header tank in the loft. What I was wondering...

Purimachos Flushex - general CH flush/clean out questions

Thanks for the info. I had no idea it wasn't very good. I can get hold of the Fernox stuff quite easily. I'll give that a go. We did notice that on the replaced rad the inflow pipe gave little more than a pathetic dribble, more like a few drops - pointing to blocked pipework. Laminate...

Purimachos Flushex - general CH flush/clean out questions

Flushex sounds like the type of product I need although I can't seem to find anywhere that sells it? My heating system uses 8mm microbore pipe, there are 2 new rads 1 of which doesn't heat up. There are another 2 rads which are steadily getting worse and they heat up a little at the top but...

    Radiator Valve leak (possibly pipe?)

I forgot to ask, when I drain the system does this mean the hot water storage tank will empty too? And what advice do you have for re-filling the system? Do I let the tank in the loft fill and do it's job? Should I let it fill while draining at the drain point to get the air out? I assume...

    Radiator Valve leak (possibly pipe?)

Thanks for the replys. I think you're right about the olive. I don't know if there is enough slack in the pipe? I take it I won't be able to simply pull the old one off and fit a new one? I tried tightning it but it felt very tight and I didn't want to make it worse so left it. We've...

    Radiator Valve leak (possibly pipe?)

Evening all, One of my radiators (the biggest one of course) is leaking at the area where the pipe enters the TRV. Although it could be the nut on the TRV? Anyhow, it's an old system which is not under pressure. There's a drain point outside the front of the house and a small tank in the...

I think I need to flush my central heating system?

Thanks Broxy, I could also take every rad off and flush trough with a hose - I have no problem with that. Should I still drain the whole system as I describe as well as every rad? Sorry to be a pest. I had a look at the Kamco site and when I can afford it I'll probably get them to flush...
