    it has a communal doorway at the back, the upstairs flat has its own single phase supply and meter in the corridor, the shop has its own 3phase supply with the meter also in the corridor. They are totally independant of each other. So can i do this work myself if i get myself some insurance?

    Another reason live & neutral pins are insulated is that a 1p peice wedges nicely between the pins and a few years back there was a spate of incidents when some kids thought it would be funny to wedge pennys into the pins and watch people plug them in and go pop! Just a little useless...

    Fitting the cooker circuit with RCD can be a bit of a pain in the wotsits, the element in your oven with be susceptable to earth leakage and may trip the rcd on a regular basis. Then if you've got your lights on rcd protection you'll be left in darkness.

    Did the kitchen fitter actually rewire the kitchen fully or just move/add a few sockets then test it? If he only added then the bulk of the wiring may still need attention. Even if it was tested and verified as ok, seeing as the rest of the house is about goosed, then how long before this goes also?

    Yes i am aware of it i was just going to buy the relevent equiptment to have someone else do it. I'm not sure which is best way to do it, its only a small bathroom, 4 downlighters will be more than enough.
