glow worm fuelsaver 50b mk11[very old] mini explosion or very loud bang when igniting. gas seems to come through to long when turned on before igniting. can it be repaired[are parts obsolete] or is a new boiler needed?

pressure gauge drops to zero quickly when turned off and quickly rises when fired up.i've been told it is most likely the expansion vessel. any rough ideas of cost for parts and labour. could it be a diy.
