    Anyone layed stone sets before? (cobbles)

    Yup sounds like it the paint not the plaster. This can be 1 of two things. 1. (most comon) Plasterer has over polished the walls and the paint isn't bonding to the glass like finish of the plaster. 2. Second (less likely but happens) Dam is coming through and causing the paint the flake...

    Blocking up an upstairs cupboard

    yeah just build it up to the top making sure you leave 1/4" min though to add some bonding on it and give it a skim with multifinish. If its not structural you'll be fine

    best thing you can do with most victorian cellars is leave them alone. The cost doesn't justify it outside london. If shes really going to do a nice job on the place. 1. take up the old bords over the cellar. 2. Drop the joists by 1/2" + damp proof 3. Lay a New 1/2" chip board...

    and its a nightmare, i had this problem once when i was teaching myself. Also remember to water down your first coat of paint by 1/3rd on new plastered walls. This will also help stop 'lifting'. Sounds like your having fun, keep going!

    try this dvd http://www.ableskills-dvd.co.uk/plastering-dvd.htm Its good for skimming to watch someone. Secondly watch out when you paint that surface if its over polished or your paint wont stick. You should lightly sand back first.
