gravity fed hot water - lack of

I've done that, although I wasn't sure if there was a good reason for it being submerged. Presumably, the syphon wouldn't happen if the hot tank filled faster. Now I'm trying to understand why the hot water flow is so poor that it takes ages to fill the bath.

gravity fed hot water - lack of

The single gate valve is fully open and there is nothing blocking the outlet from the tank. When the bath is filling I can hardly feel any draw when I put my hand over the CW tank outlet to the HW tank below. Obviously there is enough to service the shower. I was wondering whether there might...

gravity fed hot water - lack of

Hi, When I run basin taps or a shower things are generally Ok but when I fill the bath I seem to get cold water out of the hot tap even though the HW tank is full of HW. I've been up in the loft and found that the end of the HW overflow pipe is submerged in the CW tank, and, when the bath is...

    Utility Room Electrics

I have a brick built shed/utility adjacent to my kitchen with no lighting/power. In my kitchen I already have two spurs off the ring circuit, one to a double socket under the worktop for washing machine, the other to a FCU feeding the hob extractor above the wall units. Without running a new...

    Potterton Boiler/Controller problem

If I understand you correctly, you're saying that the boiler does not start up because the valve is not working correctly. What stops the boiler coming on. Is there some feedback signal from the valve ?? In the past when I have had valve problems, the boiler works - I just don't get hot rads.

    Potterton Boiler/Controller problem

My problem is that, when I switch on CH only, nothing happens at all. The boiler doesn't startup, neither does the pump start running. Only when I switch on HW does everything burst into life. That can't be the valve, can it ??

    Potterton Boiler/Controller problem

My CH has been switched off for a few months. Its a standard gravity fed system with Potterton Netaheat with separately controlled CH and HW. Now when I turn on CH at the controller, absolutely nothing happens, but when I turn on HW, boiler/pump all starts up and works normally. I even can...

    braided flexible hoses

Hi, I'm fitting a new bathroom suite and was planning to use flexible hoses throughout for connecting up all the taps. I was just wondering whether these restrict the water flows because of their smaller bores and perhaps I should stick to good old copper or plastic pipe. Any opinions ?

    Soil pipe

The toilet is immediately on the other side of the 8inch brick wall, so the pipe length is little more than that and mostly in the wall. Its the angle thru the brickwork that I'm trying to get right and for such a short distance the fall (5mm) is hardly worth worrying about. Am I right ?

    Soil pipe

I'm bringing a new soil pipe into the bathroom for a new loo. I was planning to bring the soil pipe through on the horizontal but I've noticed these 104 degree angled pan connectors. Should I be bringing the soil pipe through at angle to suit or is horizontal Ok with a straight connector...

    Pushfit stuff

I've bought a mix of polypipe barrier pipe and speedfit fittings. Is it ok to mix them or should I stick to one brand and get speedfit pipe too.

    Combining bathroom wastes

Hi, I am refitting my bathroom in an old terraced house which has a 2 pipe system. I have a basin waste (32mm) and bath waste (40mm). Can I combine them into a single 40mm pipe before running them through the wall to a hopper outside or must they remain separate. I'm just trying to minimise...
