    Laying bricks in cold weather

I've had good success using Cementone concentrated frost proofer. Used this for a lot of post setting in January when it was very cold, and been using it this week for building a block wall. Sure, I always cover the work before the sun goes down, using old blankets etc.

Garden wall - concrete block type

Appearance, yea a little, but here's the reason. It's right at the bottom of the garden - from my side, there's going to be a shed in front, and I intend to continue the wooden fence up to the shed (gladding if it has to go over the wall) just so it looks nice. The neighbours side is basically...

Garden wall - concrete block type

Hi there, So I've done quite a bit of block work before. Built a single storey workshop with cavity wall etc, and been through the building control process, so not an issue with technique. Where I would like some advice is that I'm replacing a section of garden fence with a 6ft wall. This...

    Sink connected directly to gully

Actually, just popped the gully in the shower to fill it with water - I now see that the side entry is always above the later level, so no problem it seems. Cheers.

    Sink connected directly to gully

Hi there, I've had to replace the gully on my workshop - the builder has a really small gradient, and it has never drained correctly. Anyhow, I've dug the lot up, and replaced the 50mm pipe run with 110mm back to the main sewer. My question is, I really don't like having a sink discharge...

Question on gas extension from gas meter to workshop

I'm in the process of digging a trench in order to lay the services from the main house to a recently constructed workshop in the garden. Workshop will have it's own combi boiler, so I'm going to be getting a corgi man in to extend the gas from my main gas meter, under the patio and to the new...

Roof tile edging for gable end

I'm trying to find a supplier for the edging that I've seen used for gable ends on slate roofs. It's like a larger version of what you have for bathroom tiles, and basically nails to the battens, and has a recess that takes the edge of the tiles - makes a really neat job. Any ideas of what to...

Closing cavity at the eaves - is it required?

No, 50mm air cavity to mirror the original construction. As this is a garage according to the building inspector he was happy to copy the 50mm and leave the cavity open. Does it make a difference then?

Closing cavity at the eaves - is it required?

I'm building an extension to an existing single storey workshop in my garden. The current building does not have the cavity closed at the top of the block work (construction is dense block/thermo block). I'll give the building inspector a call tomorrow, but I was just interested if it's normal...

To glue batons to concrete subfloor or not?

Hi there, I’m about to lay a real wood floor. It’s going down onto a concrete floor that was put down about 6 months ago. From the off I decided to install this floor onto 2” batons and secret nail (BTW I’ve installed the same solid wood floor before onto floorboards with great success)...
