    RCD Trips

Found a good spark who has done some testing. All fixed wiring tested fine. RCD is tripping immediately on ramp tests, so he is going to replace it.

    RCD Trips

Hi, Any views on if RCBO's would fit this CU please and if any of you sparks are in my area to do some testing? Thanks.

    RCD Trips

Another trip tonight when the boiler lit. If any sparks reading this are in my area (Washington) please ping me as I would like to have some investigation/testing done.

    RCD Trips

No trips since the fridge died, so it looks fairly certain now. I have to say it's been a very expensive piece of junk at just under 1k bought about a month ago. We've had problems with it since day 1 with ice production being very slow. Water line freezing. Stuff in the fridge freezing...

    RCD Trips

Hmm. I'm rather suspecting the fridge. I just looked at it 10 mins ago and according to the display the freezer is -18 and the fridge is 4 degrees which is strange as all the food in the freezer had defrosted and the internals of the fridge are warm. I powered the fridge off and back on...

    RCD Trips

Thanks John. Washing machine is currently running on it's own without any trip issues. There are 3 outside lights but all are mounted on house walls and are connected to the non-RCD side of the CU. I have a single outdoor MK weatherproof socket. It's connected to the garage radial on...

    RCD Trips

Thanks for the replies guys. The CU is located in the garage, so the radial in the garage (the one I changed to 20 amps) is very small. It will be under 5m in total length. There has been nothing conntected in the garage during the trips other than the gas boiler. I checked all the MCB...

    RCD Trips

I should have explained that. The MCB that I changed was for a radial circuit in the garage which should have always been a 20 amp anyway. It's wired in 2.5mm It was originally a 16 amp. I changed it for a 20 amp as the initial surge from my new compressor was tripping it out. The...

    RCD Trips

Hi, I've had one RCD trip yesterday and 2 tonight. Of course, this also coincides with my alarm battery being flat, so everytime it trips, the alarm goes off. As you would expect, it's only tripping at night! I'll be off in search of a new battery tomorrow. Everything has been fine and...

    Electrocuted by hedge trimmer

Not sure if this has already been posted. http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/8276740.Ringer_mum_electrocuted_by_hedge_trimmer/ It's all a bit vague, but it reads as if the cable was extended with the plugs connected in reverse (exposed metal plug pins on the supply side and socket on the...

    Washing machine, dishwasher double spigot

Hi guys, I'm having a new kitchen installed shortly. Dishwasher sits on one side of the sink, washing machine on the other. Is it acceptable to have a dishwasher and washing machine emptying into the sink waste via a double spigot or is this bad news? I'm pretty sure the installer will...

    Kitchen

Hi RF, Grid switches were exactly what I had in mind. Personally, I think they have to be easily accessible as the CU is in the garage, so it's not like I can just reach around the corner to switch something off. It's not a problem that one grid switch may switch from more than one...

    Kitchen

Have double checked and main fuse is 60 amps. It may have been acceptable in the 80's but not in the power hungry 10's. So it seems the radials get the green light, that leaves two questions: 1. Is it acceptable to have issolators for applainces hidden in cupboards. 2. Is 60 amp supply...

    Kitchen

No electric hob, no electric shower. House on a 60 amp fuse. I could ask the DNO to change it but I can't see it being an issue? I suppose I could get the electrician to leave new tails for the DNO to connect? Is it free to get upgraded to a 100amp fuse?

    Kitchen

Thanks for your replies guys. Just to clarify, I won't be doing anything - the electrician will be doing it all but I want to be sure that a proper job is done. As ColJack identified, the whole purpose of using 4mm and 32amp mcb's was to get away from being limited to 20 amps at each...

    Kitchen

We are having a new kitchen installed shortly. An electrician will be doing the wiring. We are going to have quite a few high current appliances. Oven, microwave, dryer, dish washer & washing machine as well as the usual low consumption devices like fridge/freezer etc. All of these...

    Switch options

Hi, Cat of complete MK grid range is here: http://www.mkelectric.co.uk/products/ranges/rangelist.asp?RangeID=1026 I'm thinking of doing something very similar to OP as my wife insists on leaving the outdoor back light switched on but I will need to fit flush. Does anyone know what...

help with new consumer unit and tripping RCD

Yes, your mainswitch is on with the CU cover off. Danger of shock, death etc. Remember, even with the main switch off, the tails supplying it are still live but at least the busbar should be dead.
