    halogen spotlight troubles

Thanks for the replies. Hmm I hadn't thought about the 240v bulb thing as I thought they had different 'prongs'. I tried a fitting from another working spot and it's definately not the bulbs or the fitting 'tail'. I'll try and get to one of the transformers through the hole in the...

    halogen spotlight troubles

Hi all - can you help? low voltage halogens I have 3 row * 3 spots in the kitchen ceiling. row 1 is controlled by switch1 and row 2 and 3 come on with switch 2. I had 2 blown bulbs in strip 2 so replaced them, not paying attention to the wattage (stupid I know). I used a 50W bulbs as...

Cheers - well I have a 32a MCB fitted so that should be even safer. RCCB (RCD?) is 80a / 30ma and the main input for the CU is 100a I have no idea what EFLI is :)

    triton electric shower kaput?

Thanks for reading the post - appreciated. Can you let me know the circumstances where the 6mm won't take the 46.4 and even the 35.4a please? I've checked my cable run and it seems to bea run of about 10m CU - then direct clipped for approx 2.5 metres - then under floorboards - then 1m up...

    triton electric shower kaput?

softus - you certainly have a way of making your point. I don't want me or my family in a morgue because of a fire. I've done a bit of reading about dangerous overcurrent faults and cable selection (section 1.4 and 1.5): http://www.kevinboone.com/cableselection_web.html I have 32a...

    triton electric shower kaput?

Softus - so if I had a 7.5kw shower my house would be Ok but if I use a 8.5kw shower my house will definately catch on fire? If you can take a minute to read the thread you'll see that I recognised that my set up isn't ideal but as crafty says - if the shower draws too much current it will...

    triton electric shower kaput?

thanks all. I will stick with the slightly overloaded 32a MCB, 6mm cable and 8.5kw shower. After all - this house has had an 8kw shower with the same circuit for a couple of years so it should be OK. If it does trip the MCB then I will do some redisgn and update of the circuit.

    triton electric shower kaput?

thanks a lot for the info. I hate working with electricity - it's scary. I'll have to take the shower out and remount it vertically :? Yep 32a not 30a  Do you reckon it'd be ok to switch to a 40a MCB then with my 6mm cable and routing? Alternativley I could just soldier on with...

    triton electric shower kaput?

I'm not sure how the cabling suns actually - i'm no expert. I can see it leave the consumer unit tacked along the wooden stairs then it goes through a stud wall and it comes out at shower end embedded in masonary wall. The length of run is less than 10m. Were you thinking I could put a 40a...

    triton electric shower kaput?

Ok - I've just put the new shower in - it's a Triton Jade II 8.5kw. I had a look at our cabling again and it looks like 6mm to me. The 10mm cable in B&Q was chunkier and the earth core was made up of multiple strands. My cable has just a single (thick) strand of earth core. Thefore I...

    triton electric shower kaput?

OK - so replace with a new one. will I actually see any difference paying for a 9.5kw one over the existing 8kw one? Ideally it'd be good to get a Triton shower with the same form factor so that it is a straight swap - any recomendations?

    triton electric shower kaput?

Hiya - my first post so please be gentle 8) Moved to a new house about a month ago. I have a triton t60i 8kw shower (about 2 years old) that is refusing to heat water as well as it used to. The RCD tripped the other day leaving me with a cold water shower. Water pressure has stayed...
