Combi vs heat only for old pipework?

Ok, sounds like heat only is the way to go for now, and then we can update cylinder in future it required. Thanks again (y)

Combi vs heat only for old pipework?

Thanks everyone, really helpful answers (love this forum!) Current pressure is fine but we have an electric shower and would be looking to get a mixer when we eventually get the bathroom done. Yes - we have an existing loft tank, would this be enough pressure for that kind of shower (upstairs...

Combi vs heat only for old pipework?

Hello - I've had different advice from different heating engineers and whilst I suspect the answer comes down to personal preference, it would be helpful to have some more opinions. We are replacing the regular boiler but not radiators in our 3/4 bed semi and have been advised by one engineer...

Best finish for pine shelves - dye plus varnish or beeswax?

Thanks Foxhole, that's another one in the mix then. Are you suggesting this because it is quicker to apply than wax or dye and varnish (having had quick look online, it doesn't sound much easier) or because the finish is better?

Best finish for pine shelves - dye plus varnish or beeswax?

Hi everyone. I have built some simple alcove shelves from 35mm pine boards and would like to know the best finish to use that will: -enhance the natural look of the grain on the edges -darken the wood to a medium brown (and hopefully prevent / mask any orange colouring that will presumably...

Tiling on floor boards - 9mm or 12mm ply?

Hi everyone. I plan to put 8.5mm porelain tiles over 1930 floor boards in my kitchen - they are not in best condition but i will fix down securely. I have bought some unibond adhesive, flex additive and some primer for plywood. question is, can i get away with 9mm WPB ply? i realise...

    Electric shower not working

i have the same problem - did you manage to sot this out (i guess you must have by now)? The shower was here when we bought the house but seems quite new, and the switch was put in by electricians when we had the whole place rewired 6 months ago. I checked the isolator and the neutral does...

Bowing joists - how to level a sagging l&p ceiling?

cant do this as two them have twisted so their sides are not vertical. If i notch the ends to lower the new joists by, say 2", should i really be using 6" deep joists?

Bowing joists - how to level a sagging l&p ceiling?

OK, I've pulled down the old lathe and plaster and yes, is was dusty. Vacuuming the loft first did help - filled about 5 bags - and we put polythene on the bedroom floor to make the clean-up easier, and sprayed a bit of water to keep the dust under control. Sawing through the lathes first...

Bowing joists - how to level a sagging l&p ceiling?

Thanks for the ideas people. I just need to clarify exactly what you mean... masona - this sounds more or less like what i was planning to do already. i am guessing the wallplate is something running around the supporting walls, which the joists are resting on or hanging from. Is this...

Bowing joists - how to level a sagging l&p ceiling?

There's nothing heavy in the loft so i guess its just the weight of the plaster? The joists dont look to be in bad shape but you can see that the free end, which protrudes beyond the central load bearing wall, is poking up above the level of the joists on the other side of the house (hard to...

Bowing joists - how to level a sagging l&p ceiling?

Hello I have just bought my first house which is a 1930s terrace. We initially thought that the old, cracked plaster in the bedroom was sagging away from the joists, so we secured with big washers by screwing up through the existing L&P, with the intention of putting plasterboard underneath...
