    Replace leaking automatic air vent

Thank you Gasguru. I'll probably try the bungs if it starts leaking again. The radiator vent would probably fit, but I was hoping for something to make it easier to catch water if there is any (the zone valves, pump and junction box are below the vent, so I'm keen to keep it under control). I...

    Replace leaking automatic air vent

I've got a 16 year old house with an open vented system and two zone valves (HW and CH). It all works fine except the AAV in the airing cupboard is leaking water. I've put a ball of PTFE in the cap and that's blocked it for now - and perhaps will be ok till the boiler needs replacing or it's...

Leaking Salamander pump & hot water

After complaining to Salamander, it appears that the do have the spares I need after all ! They have sent me a set (large O rings, a couple of clips and a spring thing) for each end - complete with instructions. Apparently, the 2 separate people at Salamander I had spoken to previously...

Leaking Salamander pump & hot water

Salamander did not call me back despite promises, so I called them again today. It was confirmed to me that they do not keep spares for pumps manufactured before 2006 ! So they try to extract more money from customers by persuading them to buy new pumps. I have just spoken to Stuart Turner...

Leaking Salamander pump & hot water

Thanks to both. I have already emailed Salamander about parts and am waiting to hear. In the meantime I was wondering if anyone would say that as it is 7 years old then don't bother trying to fix it. That has not happened so I will go ahead. The pump sucking is interesting. Another...

Leaking Salamander pump & hot water

OK - It did not take much for me to spot the temerature control set to 60-65c stuck right on the front of the cylinder. Not something I usually take any notice of. So the only other question is about whether it iw worth fixing the leaking pump - assuming I can get a new seal or O ring, or...

Leaking Salamander pump & hot water

I have a Salamander RSP100 shower pump. For 7 years it has worked fine and nothing has changed in the meantime. I have noticed a slight leak from the hot side which appears to indicate a seal has failed. The Salamander website suggests a leak could be the result of water too hot ie no more...

    Water Tank empty

JohnD Incoming water feeds Tank 1 Tank 1 is currently feeding Tank 2 BUT only Tank 1 feeds the taps Bearing in mind Tank 2 also has a ballcock valve, I suspect that someone simply forgot to open the isolating valve .... Both are Polytank and read "Polylid 50" so I assume 50 gallons...

    Water Tank empty

OK - now I am home and have solved the mystery a) it was nothing to do with my turning off the main to change a washer b) I had not left any stopcocks half open c) the two round tanks in the loft are connected d) tank one - the ballcock valve was clogged - I have just cleaned out the cone...

    Water Tank empty

JohnD - a good point about the mains pressure, so unlikely to be an air lock. However, I did not turn off anything but the stopcock under the sink - so, now I think maybe it could be both ballcock valves. On the other hand .......... I think I might have closed another valve a few...

    Water Tank empty

Thanks for the reply JohnD There are actually two big round tanks and one small rectangular overflow tank. Both big tanks are empty. Both ball cocks move freely. And there is a single pipe which feeds both tanks. So, unless one ball valve had already stopped working ....... and now the...

    Water Tank empty

Help ! Yesterday I turned off the mains to change tap washer in kitchen - ok Today - no hot water ! In loft, the tank which feeds hot water cylinder is empty down to the outlet pipe. The ballcock seems to move freely and no reason to suspect it is not working. I have just tried a very quick...
