New RCD protected CU and Supplimentary Bonding in Bathroom

Thanks guys! I talked to the electrician and he said that it wouldn't hurt to leave it in. He could take it out, if we wanted, just that the new regs said it wasn't required in our case. Since it's erring on the safe side, and would cost me money to have it taken out, I think I'll just...

New RCD protected CU and Supplimentary Bonding in Bathroom

Hi All: We've just replaced our old CU with a new one with RCD protection. The electrician said that now all the supplimentary bonding in the bathroom was not required. My question is: Should we just leave it alone or hire our electrician to remove it all? Cheers!

    Hammering in CH system

Hi David, and thanks for your response. In my first post I said it was an "S" plan, but maybe I didn't make it clear. The details are: Worcester Bosch Greenstar 24i system boiler. DHW comes from a thermal store made by DPS (www.heatweb.com). The thermal store has a bypass fitted...

    Hammering in CH system

II see, that's true. I hadn't thought of that. In fact, we were going to make the towel rads dual fuel and run them off electricity in the summer. I think that means you close them off from the main CH system anyway. So that means they wouldn't be suitable for a bypass ... at least not in...

Failing Megaman Dimmerable 11W CFL GU10s

RF Lighting - I don't think they will take standard GU10s. The standard ones would fit too far up in the lamp. Plus there is the heat the standard ones generate. What I'm thinking is that I will give up on this dimmerable technology and just go with straight forward, non-dimming CFLs...

    Hammering in CH system

Hi Armo74 - Good point about flushing the system. No, we didn't. I am still working on the house and we are just about to finish the last bedroom. I have another rad to hang there so it might be a good time to just take a breather, flush out everything and clean the whole system. At least...

Failing Megaman Dimmerable 11W CFL GU10s

Thanks toasty and aptsys! I went onto the Megaman website and sent them a message about this. Let's see what they say. I'd settle for replacing the failed dimmerable ones with normal GU10 CFLs. Where I have them in the house, they seem to be holding out. I'll post their response here...

Failing Megaman Dimmerable 11W CFL GU10s

Steve - Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I can't see how we did anything wrong. We followed all the advice on the Megaman website, even down to using dimmer switches they recommended. I think the cheapest option I can try now is to go to Megaman about this and see if they will replace the bulbs...

Failing Megaman Dimmerable 11W CFL GU10s

Hi Everyone: I did a quick search of this site and have discovered several posts reporting trouble with Megaman Dimmerable CFL GU10 lights. We have installed 14 of the warm 11W GU10s here in ceiling downlights. The bulbs came with the light fittings (Flameguard CF409s). There are three...

    Hammering in CH system

Hi Armo74. Yup, there is a bypass valve. There is also one rad that has no TRV on it and it's always wide open. It's located where the thermostat will be.

    Hammering in CH system

Hi everyone. We have completely refurbished our CH system. There is a new condensing system boiler, all new pipework, new rads and TRVs. We haven't installed a programmable thermostat yet, but that will happen in due course. I have noticed that sometimes, after the CH system has been on...

Confused about installing a FCU into a ring main.

Lectrician - Thanks for that. I would have just spurred off an existing socket. But the wall is all exposed and it's easy to get to all the cabling. If I'm running one cable I might as well run another one. It will be straight forward to extend the ring. The project has been dormant...

Confused about installing a FCU into a ring main.

Thanks Adam_151! Ah. Okay, it all makes sense now. I didn't look at the terminals on the back of the Timeguard correctly. Thanks for your help.

Confused about installing a FCU into a ring main.

I'm installing a dual fuel heated towel rail. It will have an electric element in it to be used in the summer when the central heating is off. In the room adjacent the bathroom there is a suitable socket I can spur off to run a cable to the site (outside the bathroom) where I plan to install...

    Different Fan Isolator switches

Thanks Matthew. I'll press on with using it. And I need to wire something today instead of spending it all on the internet researching.

A Question about Wiring Colour Code Conventions

Not sure about the shot bit, but otherwise I totally agree with what you say, Sparkwright.

A Question about Wiring Colour Code Conventions

Thanks again Ericmark. Most of what I've read today suggests that, for a timed ceiling fan, I'll use: Permanent Live = Brown Switched Live = Black (sleeved Brown) Neutral = Grey (sleeved Blue) I guess my electrician didn't follow this convention, I don't know why, on the other hand...

    Different Fan Isolator switches

Thanks Adam_151! Okay, that makes sense. I'm also thinking I should just go buy another switch. Then I could look for one that is labelled like the one which is currently working (i.e. L1 L2 and N).

A Question about Wiring Colour Code Conventions

Thanks Dingbat and Bans! The reason I asked the question originally is that I have been looking over some of the work done in this house over the last few years. The same electrician has done all of it. In one instance (I haven't looked at all the similar circuits he's done) a single...

    Different Fan Isolator switches

Thanks for that Wingcoax! Are you able to say which set of terminals go to the fan? On the untouched switch it looks like the bottom ones do, but I'm not able to get in there and wiggle cables around to see which one goes where. Cheers!
