Is it possible to repair a hole in a copper pipe?

I wouldn't recommend soldering at floor level unless you've got a good quality blow torch. Based on my experience the DIY canister torches I've tried are only any good when the can is upright.

    Towerchron DP72 last digit flashing

Hopefully this is the last problem I find with my central heating system! The programmer right-hand most digit sometimes flashes and sometimes goes from the normal number in the time to a letter E then changes back again. The instructions are brief to say the least and don't give many clues...

    Recommendations for controls?

Funnily enough, I think one Honeywell is cheaper than two Sunvics. That should make a wise person smile! Honeywell it is then, thanks.

    Recommendations for controls?

Any opinions on what are the best / most reliable 2 or 3 port valves? I see Honeywell are the most expensive, are they the best? Siemens/Drayton/Horstmann/Sunvic/Danfoss any good? In the old house I had an old (really old) Honeywell 3 port that failed. Found out when I got wet it didn't...

TRV for hot water temp - good or bad?

The fine copper tube goes round in a loop (doesn't look kinked or damaged) then into the side of the cylinder. It's covered with yellow tape so I'll have to remove that to see better - I'll have a go later. I can feel something underneath and when I press a bit it moves in. It makes me think...

TRV for hot water temp - good or bad?

Thanks All. Tony - yes it was the red-handled valve he closed. My father thinks it should be open at least a bit so I have released it a little now to allow some flow. Not sure how to adjust it more scientifically though! Mr. W - thanks, googling 'Tap-Stat' got me some info on the...

TRV for hot water temp - good or bad?

I'm having some problems with my central heating & hot water system and I think I need to understand how it works before trying to fix it but I'm scratching my head. Any help would be welcome. I have a standard boiler (non-combi) and copper cylinder. In the airing cupboard the feed to the...

Three phase phase angle between phase to phase

You need your black probe for both channels connected to the same phase conductor. Otherwise you are applying a 180° phase shift to one waveform (viewing waveform upside down). Hence 180-120=60° viewed phase shift.

Help filling in Electrical Installation Certificate

Thanks RF. Yes isolator is in plastic enclosure. Initially I kept it as TT as an RCD at the origin (split load 100mA S type + 30mA) meant I could be sure of meeting disconnection times on all circuits, including existing ones. If I went for PME is there any reason why I can't leave both the RCDs...

Help filling in Electrical Installation Certificate

That's an interesting point. The DNO didn't mention it when he changed the tails over last month. He was wearing protective gloves and mask when he pulled the fuse, and mentioned it was in case he caught it on the metal case as it came out, so I assume the casing is earthed already. It's...

Help filling in Electrical Installation Certificate

Hello, I'm trying to fill in an EIC ready for the visit from the BCO. I've got a few questions someone might be able to help with? 1) "Supply Protective Device Characteristics" - I presume this refers to the service fuse. I can't see any markings on it other than the manufacturer. How...

    electrical installation diagrams

Those diagrams are all made from standard shapes, nothing special, so you could do them in MS Word with time. If you don't have Word try OpenOffice Draw from www.openoffice.org, it's free.
