Then your router would need coax, possibly RG6 or RG59 as you mention. Depending on distance you may need to change the attenuator if there is one.

Are on Virgin cable broadband or BT? Do you have any pictures of what the current cabling is? You may have already thought about this but I would also just consider WiFi signal strength from under the stairs.

I can only assume the new firewall is blocking ports required for DLNA. I did this quick search... hope it helps.

I know it's probably a bit late now but I've used oval conduit for this kinda thing although not sure how you'd get around the corner. You could leave a 'pull through' cable in place once conduit is installed and plastered over. This will enable pulling cable through at a later date.

Cheers for that. Just checked it and it's really cloudy in that fuse. So that one must have blown as well. Got a pack of 5 coming off of ebay.

It seems that the Draytek one has a few VPN issues according to a couple of reviews on Amazon. The situation could have improved with firmware updates as the reviews are from May and August last year. The Netgear D7800 has a couple of different variations but reviews seem pretty positive...

I suspect that the wireless chip in your tablet is faulty. How's the Bluetooth? Have you tried changing the wireless advanced settings like turning the frequency from Auto to 2.4?

It definitely works... when the battery ran out at 3am this morning we knew about it. I have also just tested again by arming the alarm and then walking in front of Z2 PIR. The bell box was definitely ringing outside.
