    Wood Kitchen Worktop Restoration Query

Wood has been proven to be very hygenic for reasons mentioned by other postings. I have a Marble insert in my worktops. Even on this I do not cut. But it serves well for hot Pans. Pastry etc. Use a chopping board. Who uses a laminate worktop to chop on anyway. I must admit my only other two...

How To Chase A Wall For Microbore Pipes??

So your saying the regs say that galvanised metal channel can cause corrosion on the copper and only plastic is suitable. This means that the pipework cannot touch the wall, (walls contain salt etc which will corrode the pipes) that is the reason copper pipes should be protected by a sleeve when...

Auto Air Vent Ravenheat RSF 820

Well after running bath bar pressure went to 2.8 when normal high is 2.2. Still did not release air through the AAV though. Turned off heating and ran Kitchen Sink for about 4 mins and the bar went up from 2.0, was falling to its normal 1.2, to 2.6 then cut out the pilot light. Did not...

    Bay window new ceiling

see my last reply to your other thread. There is no need for plastic. Ceiling joists need air all round too. So do rafters. More heat will be lost through your windows than the bay roof after this insulation you are planning is put in.

Bay Window Roof Insulation - Advice Please

Forgot. The reason why I pre to use fibre as opposed to Celotex is simple. The fibre is not sandwiched between foil. If you get condensation your central heating will help the condensation to evaporate. If Celotexing between ceiling joists then allow a small gap either side of the joists...

Bay Window Roof Insulation - Advice Please

Today with new regs Celotex will refer to thermal bridging. You must bear in mind that if you have no Soffit under your guttering, ie between the wall/window and the fascia board your guttering is probably connected to, I say probably because your guttering could be attached to the radter ends...

How To Chase A Wall For Microbore Pipes??

If this is a 77 house they could well be Celcon blocks which were designed to be light and give good insulation due to the air trapped in the block. These are easy to chase with a bolster. Do you know if these blocks are concrete or not? Have you tried a bolster on them before? Do not use...

Auto Air Vent Ravenheat RSF 820

OK. I am running a bath at the moment with CH on to see if air is released from the AAV. When fished I will turn off CH and do same again. Will post results. I assume if Air is released from the AAV when CH is off then the diverter valve is stuck.

Thanks Dave. Is there an easy way to check this? Also would it work OK if the heating was on but not if the heating was off?

HOW TO LEVEL A BATH WITH NO STRAIGHT EDGES?

The reason you should fix batons to the wall or walls in the case of a corner bath is this. 1.You do not want the bath tops moving after tiling, or you will have to silicone the top as opposed to tiling down and grouting. DIYers are no good with silicone. In fact very few people are. You...

HOW TO LEVEL A BATH WITH NO STRAIGHT EDGES?

Am I Mad. All the Baths I have fitted have a natural fall to the plug internally. You cannot level a bath from the inside unles you want your tiling to be total c**p. You cannot use the underboard either. To level the top just cut two pieces of wood with straight edges the width of the bath...

How To Chase A Wall For Microbore Pipes??

If you have an angle grinder by all means use it. You will get a serious amount of dust though. Seal area off with sheeting or plastic. You will need gloves, goggles and mask though. Cut until you can see no more then step out until dust settles before going back into enclosure. Personally I...

My kitchen worktops are done with Brywax. 1st I teak oiled them. Then I brywaxed when teak oil dryed. Three coats initially. Then apply regular coats every time you want to polish them up. I do mine approx 6 months. 1/2 hour. When water gets on them it balls up like mercury. DO NOT USE...

Bay Window Roof Insulation - Advice Please

Don't need to go to the expense of Celotex. Put as much wool insulation as you want acroos the top of the ceiling joists. 2x 100mm will do the trick. The roof needs air circulation. Unless your felting is breather felt or you va tile vents it is better to use normal fibre insulation than...

    Insulating between the rafters

You might not be doing yourself any favours trying to predict for a roof conversion. Mine was built under building Regs last August. I have completed the Roof Dormers etc. Completely Reroofed etc. I have not gone into the roof space at the time of writing to Insulated yet. Building...

    Fitting a frameless glass roof

Seems like alot of trouble to me. If I get this right you want to get 4 straight lines with a cutter, (2 for each wall), then chase out these cuts at a pitch. Forget the idea. Use lead to flash onto the polycarbonate. Just two stright lines if you decide not to step flash.
