Insulating suspended timber floor - PIR boards vs multi-layer quilt?

Thank you gentlemen for your responses. Having done a bit more reading, I understand now that even if the claims made for the multi layer quilt were accurate, it's not the ideal product for what I'm doing. With regards to the rock wool, would the slabs be suitable or would I be better off...

Insulating suspended timber floor - PIR boards vs multi-layer quilt?

I have to insulate our lounge floor (4x5m) once the rest of the room has been fiinshed. It's freezing in there, as its bare boards (and that's how it's staying I am told), with no insulation. I was originally going to cut PIR boards (50 or 70mm) to sit on battens between the joists, but a...

Osmo hard wax oil on sanded boards...now I don't like it!

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep it in mind. Still undecided... It's between painting white or trying a darker wax/oil, which I don't think will work well now that the surface is sealed.

Osmo hard wax oil on sanded boards...now I don't like it!

Thank you getitdone. The floor surface was coated over a year go, and now has the feel of dry satin varnish, not at all waxy. I suspect with minimal sanding it will take paint without a problem. As there appears to be no definitive answer, I'm going to try a small area and see how it goes.

Osmo hard wax oil on sanded boards...now I don't like it!

Long story short...this time last year I sanded the boards in our lounge and treated them with 2 coats of Osmo hard wax clear. The boards were probably put down in the 80s, and are still quite new looking. Applying the Osmo has resulted in that awful orangey ducal type look, which I was really...

    Moisture resistant MDF...

Is this stuff usually dyed completely green? I ordered some from a local builders merchant, and it has a faint green stripe across it, and wanted to make sure it's definitely what I ordered!

    Oil Boiler

I wasn't offering you my Esse, don't worry. I was merely stating that I have a system with a similar burner, which uses a 3A fuse to power the entire system, including pump. The original poster was unsure of the correct fuse rating, although as she stated, her boiler had probably been...

    Oil Boiler

My Esse Oilburner (Ecoflam I beleive) states 3A fuse - you don't wan't the wrong one in there.

    Astra Emission light ON

It only takes a few hammer blows in close proximity to an O2 sensor to kill it. Some exhaust sealing products don't do them much good either.

Citroen ZX diesel cold starting problem

The only surefire way to diagnose glowplugs is to test them with a multimeter capable of measuring at least 20amps DC, and measure each one individually. They usually start of pulling approx 18-20A, gradually falling as they heat up. Alternatively replace them all, as they are fairly cheap...

Please HELP!! - cold House but red hot pump??

If the pipes either side of the pump are cold, the pump must be generating it's own heat. I guess that's either because it's seized up, or pumping air. Can you hear it running? That's about as much help as I can be - you'll have to wait for the experts to come along!

    bwm 1995 325td help !

If the car has never had a lock change (or has had a lock change officially) then ordering a new lock barrel to chassis no. from a main dealer will result in the existing key fitting the new lock. It's a common problem, and as a result the parts aren't badly priced. The diesel/injector...

    bmw 5 series touring stalls

First off, that wasn't a guess - it's a very common fault on the M52 engine, and a fault read would be of no help if that were the case.

    bwm 1995 325td help !

1, The 325td/tds was prone to deisel pump faults - which often lead to intermittent misfires, which is why they often come up cheap. 2, There is a solenoid valve that controls the coolant flow to the heater - follow the pipes under the bonnet to locate it - try unplugging to start with (they...

    bmw 5 series touring stalls

The air-mass meter does not have a flap, there is no ignition module, and whilst the coolant temp sensor may be cheap, have you seen where it is? (They don't fail anyhow!) The 523i (M52 engine) has a small air-hose, which is part of the crankcase venting system - it runs the length of the...

Biasi 24s repeated gas valve failure.

Not sure of the SN, but pretty sure it says year of manufacture 2000 on the printed label.

Biasi 24s repeated gas valve failure.

They weren't laughing at me, nor were they laughing at my father. The Vendor had purchased the boiler, having witnessed it working, and for the many reasons already discussed in this thread, he was unable to find anybody willing to install it. As a result, my Father paid next to nothing for...

Biasi 24s repeated gas valve failure.

Thanks guys for all of the input. Both myself and my Father are well aware of the potential dangers of DIY gas installation and repair - I will further reinforce all of your comments when I see him later today. Hopefully he will see sense and opt for new. Many thanks, Paul.

Biasi 24s repeated gas valve failure.

Thanks for the reply Gasguru, To be honest, that is the response I was expecting. I/we are fully aware of the situation regarding building control, and the fact that it is a non-condensing boiler. The boiler is fitted in his own house, and although he is not qualified in the sense you are...
