uPVC euro locks are pathetic security - so is it possible to

Just to add to the debate about Eurolocks: A couple of years ago my sister lost the keys to the french windows so my brother in law and me thought we would give it a try and get it open. After a bit of playing around (we didn't know about bumping) we thought logically and drilled through the...

Best treatment for internal solid oak doors

I've used Ronseal brushing wax on most of my doors. They are old Pine doors and they were stripped back to original wood. I found it changed the colour very little but gave enough protection to stop grubby marks at the edges (as another poster mentions). Funnily enough, I am just about to...

Fitting new oak external door set

Hi all I have run several searches but can't find a post asking this. What would be a fair price for getting a full external oak doorset fitted? The doorset is new and should go straight into the existing space with little if any modification needed. I appreciate that it is a little...

    Worcester 24cdi hot water cutout

Final analysis and fix for future searches It was the diverter valve and the engineer replaced the diaphragm (took about 1.5 hours). Seems to have done the trick. Out of interest, the diaphragm was almost falling to bits so not sure how it has held up so well for so long. Dave

    Mira shower cutting out

Agnes I had a Mira shower (can't remember which one - 9.5Kw version anyway) and I had exactly the same problem. Mira couldn't find the problem etc etc and talked the same reset claptrap so one day I took it apart and had a look. On top of the boiler/heat exchanger there is a a temp sensor - a...

    Ariston genus combi running continually

BillHook A long shot admittedly but this caught out the engineer on my boiler (worcester 24CDi) a couple of years ago: He was trying to locate a fault and switched the gas valve mode switch to max (which makes it run continuously) to run tests. After doing the repair and re-commissioning...

    Worcester 24cdi hot water cutout

Our water is generally soft with little scale buildup. Watching the diverter valve when the water gets turned on, it doesn't come out far enough to trip the micro-switch hence the boiler doesn't fire up. Way too big a job for me so I have an engineer coming this morning to resolve. I know...

    Worcester 24cdi hot water cutout

Damn! I've checked the switch and diverter plunge and, from what I can see, the plunge doesn't come out far enough from the valve to actuate the switch when the water is turned on. The switch works fine. Am I right in thinking this is the diaphragm gone/going? Looking at where the...

    Worcester 24cdi hot water cutout

Yes, the CH works fine. For the hot water, it now seems to be, after lots of testing: a low flow doesn't even start the boiler, a fast flow (tap full on) starts the boiler but only lasts for approx 10 secs and then the boiler shuts off (no errors) and the water runs cold. Is there a flow...

    Worcester 24cdi hot water cutout

Just tried cleaning the inlet filter - no difference. The water flow is also fine (plenty at the taps). Any other ideas? Thanks Dave

Thanks Kev, I will give that a try first. The other option sounds expensive! Dave

    Worcester 24cdi hot water cutout

Sorry Guys, I'm a little confused! Has an errant poster been deleted cos the flow of the conversation seems a little odd!! From what I understand it could either be the DHW heat exchanger scaled up (can this be done easily or is it a job for a boiler engineer?) or simply the inlet filter...

    Worcester 24cdi hot water cutout

Hi Guys(and girls) I have the above boiler and it has started to cut out after about 10 secs of running the hot water. Everything seems to work OK but it just cuts out and the water runs cold. If you leave it 10 seconds or so and try again, it looks like the flow is reduced ( although...

Thanks Balenza - a very comprehensive reply. Will try and find someone who can do it. Dave

This sounds like it will then need re-coating - is this easy too? Thanks

    Broken Radiator

Not really an option as we bought it about 3 months ago but have only now got around to fitting it. More annoying - it's gone down in price so we should have waited to buy anyway!

    Broken Radiator

I stupidly dropped a designer radiator as I was moving it and bent one of the fins slightly. It is not severe but enough to crack the enamel finish slightly at the joint. Before fitting I tried a leak test (I filled her up and then blew as hard as I could to get pressure in) and there appears...
