    Mixing Lime Mortar

Hello folks, I planning to make a lime mortar for some brickwork in a fireplace using hydraulic lime NHL3.5. Now I now that when using non-hydraulic lime you usually make a lime putty well in advance and then wait a few days before adding the sand. I just want to know whether the same applies...

    Under Rated MCB?

I've recently had my consumer unit changed and I've only just noticed that my 10.5kW shower is now on a 40A MCB whereas it was previously on a 45A MCB. Even with my grade C in A Level physics I can work out that a 10.5 KW shower pulls a tad more than 45 Amps. But when I spoke with the sparky...

Worn out MCBs - truth or nonsense

Please settle an argument for me. I've been told that MCBs eventually weaken if they keep tripping. Sounds like a load of guff to me but I'm in no position to argue the toss. What's the definitive answer?

    Water Stopcock Cover

I've searched the forum and the internet to no avail... I need to replace a broken cast iron water stopcock cover at the back of my house. I suspect it's the original from the early 1950s. It was originally hinged (the pins have long since disappeared so the cover is loose as well as snapped...

    GU10 Energy Saving Bulbs

I've bought two 11W low energy Megaman GU10 bulbs to replace a couple of 50W halogens that have blown in my kitchen. Although the lampholders aren't fixed, I can't get the bulbs past the springs which hold the outer fitting in place (i.e. the bit that clips to the underside of the ceiling)...

    Drilled through kitchen ring

Annoyingly, while putting up a shelf in my kitchen I have drilled through the cable in the ring for the kitchen sockets. Before you all start tutting and calling me a stupid boy, I drilled into what should be a safe zone. Clearly, it wasn't. The upshot is that that the kitchen ring still...

Connecting 15mm mains water feed to 22mm bath tap

Pretty self-explanatory subject title really. I'm refitting my bathroom this weekend. The cold feed will be from the mains which is on 15mm copper. Obviously the bath tap requires 22mm pipe. Is it okay to fit a reducing coupling on a 22mm tail from the bath tap to the 15mm mains? I've got...

    28mm cold water supply

Does anyone know of any good reason why the cold water supply from my CW tank in the loft to my bathroom is supplied by 28mm copper pipe? I was wondering if I can replace it with 22mm and then only have to fit a reducing tee for the sink. The CW tanks only feeds the bath and sink. I should...
