    Electric central heating control

Hi there. I have Dimplex MK1 oil filled radiators around the house ranging from 750watt to 2kw, at the moment they are controlled by mechanical timers hard wired or plug in timers. I'm looking to automate the timers, I know you can get remote controlled plug-in switches - ideal for sockets...

    Heating control automation

Thanks... No my o/h works shifts so the house is generally occupied in one way or another 24/7 hence wanting some system that works best for that situation. Ideally using the heaters as and when you enter a room for a period of time would be best however I am rubbish at remembering to turn...

    Heating control automation

I have 2x 2kW Dimplex Mk1 oil filled rads and 3 x 1kW Mk1 rads. I saw a couple of videos on youtube about keeping heating running on 24/7 during the winter period and I liked the theory of letting the rads keeping the house at a regular temp so gave it a go for a month. Yes the house was...

    Most efficient lighting?

At great expense I tried a Philips 7 watt "MasterLED" bulb to replace an 11 watt stick CFL, I dont know if it is the colour temp of the light but it does seem to be dimmer than the CFL. Doing some research on the web it seems a 7 watt LED 240 volt bulb gives out the about same amount if light...

Advise on connecting a Thermal Store to a Radiator Circuit

Thanks... I believe it is direct as it is heated directly using 2x immersion heaters and not a boiler

Advise on connecting a Thermal Store to a Radiator Circuit

Your right there. I accept you cant get more energy out than you put in, I don't know if upgrading a heater to 6kw would be a good workaround, therefore giving a total of 9kw?

Advise on connecting a Thermal Store to a Radiator Circuit

Just heard back from Navitron who confirm this coil is for space heating however there maybe limits on its capabilities. Last night I rechecked the coil which did produce hot water and A LOT of gurgling and steam as I funneled the water in.

Advise on connecting a Thermal Store to a Radiator Circuit

Thanks for the reply. I have been searching the web and came across the same sort of answers you gave, I have emailed Newark just on the off chance. I assumed the coil should be as efficient as possible, earlier this afternoon I flushed cold water though the coil which only came out luke warm.

Advise on connecting a Thermal Store to a Radiator Circuit

I currently have a Navitron TS1400x1800 210 Litre Thermal store http://www.navitron.org.uk/product_detail.php?proID=86&catID=90 It is being heated by 2x 3Kw immersion heaters which is doing a fantastic job providing seemingly endless amounts of hot water. At the moment I am using panel...

    Thermal store quick question

Sorry for the delay in getting back but to conclude the rod thermostats for the elements was badly out of calibration. Carefully taking the covers off the rod thermostats and re-ranging the cap, reassembling and testing I got both up to 70 degrees and hey presto the thermal store works a...

Lol.... Thermal store problem sorted. Took apart thermostat and re ranged the dial. Now 70 degrees is a true 70 degrees.. 1 bath and a shower later there is still plenty of heat left!

    Thermal store quick question

It isn't that bad. Reason I got rid of gas was the combi boiler failing and was BER. Got quotes form 2.5k to a massive 4.5K with British Gas (Say no more!) As I'm on my own in the house, my usage for hot water and heating isn't huge. When the boiler was condemned I sketched some...

    Thermal store quick question

Seems like a problem has been identified. The rod thermostats seem to be faulty. Measuring the cylinder temperature, the bottom element is switching off at about 45 degrees and the top element was switching off at about 50, despite both being set to 70 degrees.

yeah I understand that you can't just drop tools at a set time, a phone call would be useful even if to say they cant make it, only takes a couple of minutes max.

    Thermal store quick question

No hes done it Free of charge as he's staying here a couple of days a week while he working up here. He likes his baths and although the 12Kw Redring powerstream took a good 45 mins to fill the bath he wanted something "Up to the job". I did get an unvented cylinder when i initially did my...

    Thermal store quick question

The thermostats on the immersion elements are at 70 degrees. Mate who installed it has asked Newark and they have asked him to do some tests. they suspect the Temperature Mixing Valve is at fault as it is closing down too much, they also said the mixing valves hottest setting should be 60...

    Thermal store quick question

My mate isnt qualified as a plumber but even then a thermal store is simple to install, (Mains water in, Hot water out, no need for TPR Valves, expansion vessels etc). The Navitron was pre plumbed with a blending valve. There doesn't appear to be a problem with the flow,it filled the bath...

    Thermal store quick question

As part of an accommodation "deal" I've just had a brand new 172 litre thermal store purchased and fitted by a mate in the cellar to replace my 12Kw on demand Redring Powerstream. I have it running as a Direct (electric) thermal store using 2x 3Kw elements, both set to 70 degrees. I...
