Thanks to the advice on this forum I'm £1500 better off, for now.

What started as a noisy boiler banging crashing knocking and wheezing and a quote for £1500 for a new boiler, because 'that ones knackered mate, can't get the parts for them now'

A bit of research and £25 of boiler noise reducer which only solved the problem for 4 months, today a flush and £25 on X100 + X200 has resulted in a instantly quieter boiler that I'm told can only get quieter over the next 2 weeks.

Tips used from here,

X100 + X200
Flushing help
Cleaning the exchanger with water externally (worked a treat)
Pump flow direction and bleeding

Hopefully this has put some more life into my 20yr old Apollo and we can live happily ever after.

Once again thanks to those who helped :D

Cleaning the fins with water under the tap...works a treat and recommended way to clean, but a bit of a pain on an annual service!
