Hi....

I'm a novice diyer who is trying to keep the other half smiling this weekend!!!

In short, i'm trying to change a bog standard landing pendant for a new fitting. The connector block on the new light has just 3 terminals....live, earth and nuetral. The old fitting had 4 wires coming from the ceiling. The normal red, black and earth and also another red. These were wired to the terminal block...one red to 'sw', one red to 'line loop in', black to neutral and earth to earth. Ive put some tape round the sw red wire and connected it to the other live. Now the light just stays on. It is usually operated by a switch on the landing and a switch on the hall and has worked fine. How do I connect the spare red wire? Do I need to get a 4 piece connector block to replace the one that was fitted to the new light fitting?

Any help will be welcomed.

Sounds like it :D
(You could just use a single piece of block to terminate the permanent live)

Cheers for the quick responses.

Yeah...i have put both the reds into the live terminal on the block in the new light fitting.

All I need do then is put the red switch wire into the live terminal and just blank off the other red live wire? Soz to go over it again but I'm not to fond of balancing over the stairs for longer than I have to!!!!

Cheers again.

Yes, blank it off into a single piece of terminal block or replace the 3 block with a 4 to give you the extra one.

Yeah...its working fine now.

I've put the live that went to the old sw terminal to the live on light fitting and have put the other live from the ceiling wiring into a single block terminal. Its working fine now thanks.

was this 2 way wired by having the strappers connector blocked at the ceiling rose ?
