Surely the idea of 24-hour news is so that we can have more news, not less. Right ? So how come we now have stories that are considered so big that all other news is to be cancelled on that day.
It started with Princess Diana. Fair enough at first, but by day 3, unless she was up and walking, there really was nothing new to be said on the subject.
Then we went through 9/11, the Tsunami, July 7th, but recently we had live reports from outside George Best's hospital, just waiting for the moment when someone announces that his condition has changed from poorly to dead.
But today, given that it wasn't a terrorist attack, and no-one died, why have I not been able to watch anything but pictures of a smoke plume on all the channels today. Its important for the residents of Hemel Hempstead to know what's going on, but that's why we have local telly, surely.
