hi , all the very best to you

Me mam's had a football go through her front window, the one next to the front door. It must measure about 3 x 3 . It looks like it's actually proper stained glass with pieces of lead in between various shapes of glass, or is this what's known as a leaded window ?

Does anyone know if it could be repaired and then strengthened by sandwiching it between two other pieces of glass? I suppose this may make it triple-glazing.

Thing is, I don't want to got to the expense of having it repaired, ( if I ever find someone to do this in Merseyside) only for it to be broken again because it's not very strong as a window.

Any advice appreciated,
Pete

Churches make their vandal proof by covering with a layer of sheet polycarbonate (plastic), but they leave several inches between the poly and the glass which might not be feasible for your mum's door. Only other alternative I could suggest is a wrought iron grille on the outsifde of the door.

Some glaziers do stained glass repairs, but it tends to be a specialist job. You'd probably find that a local glazier (not double glazing) could to point you in the right direction, but you might also want to try in St. Helens, after all they make more glass there than anywhere else in the UK (Pilks) and there used to be a stained glass place there years ago. The only other one I know is the Stained Glass Experience at Mawdsley near Ormskirk - they do church work. Good, but a bit pricey.
