Hi everyone,

I'm pondering putting an external light in the back garden and, because I would like to go through the kitchen wall just above the tiles, I reckon the easiest thing to do would be to tap into the kitchen ring main and bring 2.5mm cable into a switched 5A socket. The plan is then to run 1.5mm cable to the external light, switched on/off via the 5A fused switch.
In theory (say's I) this should be ok as the light is wired using 1.5mm cable, but fused down to 5A.
OK so far........but is using a fused switch like this, although easier for me, acceptable??
Any help appreciated.
The light is just a 60W bulb type,IP rated for external use.

if you could take it from lighting circuit no fuse required.

if you wish to do as you syuggest , you require a switched fuse connection unit (switch and fuse in one) stick to cable sizes you have mentioned, also make sure that where you want to connect to is not a spur
