Hi all,

This might sound a very stupid question but here goes:- how big are 6ft (width) fence panels? Are they 1.8m or 1.82?

Here is the reason I ask:-

When I moved into my house there was a six foot fence in front of a five foot fence acting as a boundary with my neighbours. Both fences are on my property. Recently I decided I wanted to replace the two fences with one six foot fence. As a temporary measure I took out the six foot panels & put them in the five foot posts. At this point I noticed that the six foot panels seemed a sloppy fit in the five foot fence posts.

To work out what was going on I measured both sets of fence panels & found:-

five foot fence panel has a width of 1.82m (6ft)
six foot fence panel has a width of 1.8m (<6ft)

As I intended to re-use the six foot posts (replacing the five foot posts) I am a bit concerned that any panels I buy may not fit properly so I need to know is a six foot wide panel really six foot wide (1.82m) or 1.8m?

Or am I missing something?

Thanks for any help

Depends who makes it. The only way to be sure is to measure up in the shop before you buy, in any case, pick up some small section batten to fill in any gaps, just in case.
