Hi there,
I've got a leaky Single Lever tap, which has been leaking for a long time, and I've finally decided to try and resolve it. I have removed the lever, and the plastic tilt mechanism and exposed the dome shaped brass nut, but have not been able to loosen the nut. I want to check I'm trying the right approach before I risk pushing it any harder.
My problem is that although I can put a spanner or a wrench on the flat faces of the nut, but as soon as I try to turn it, the whole body twists, putting pressure on the two copper tails at the bottom of the base. The tap is attached to a worktop, and the horseshoe plate isn't very well located, as can be seen from:
I've tried WD40 on the nut, but no improvement. Am I just being a whimp and need to give it more welly, or is there some other technique? Is there supposed to be another part of the body I can get to and use to brace when I try to loosen the nut?
The tap leaks in various places - drips from the spout, but also around the body as can be seen in the pictures. Is this going to be due to the cartridge, and therefore worthwhile continuing to dismantle and try and identify the cartridge, or am I wasting my time and should just buy a new tap? The tap is about 9 years old, and I have no idea what make it is.
Appreciate any advice you can provide.
Ian.
