Can someone please answer a very simple question which has always puzzled me - why do the thicker angle grinder discs almost always have a dished shape, whereas thinner cutting discs are flat?
The thicker disks are designed for gringing with the flat face in contact with the work as opposed to cutting discs which use the edge. If you were grinding something flush with the surrounding surface the fastening nut would get in the way, thats why it is recessed.
