Does anyone around here have any experience of fitting ANPR cameras? Specifically in petrol stations. There are bespoke systems by the like of tokheim (who make fuel pumps) which can interface with the epos system, pumps, display an image of the pump being paid for on the till etc etc. It can even interface with access control systems and features remote monitoring and tablet viewing etc. No doubt such a system would run into tens of ks to install, but what about a basic ANPR system that automatically checks number plates against an in store database of previous known offences.

You are wanting a ANPR camera to check your own database, the only issue is the integration.

The thing with petrol stations you need intrinsically safe equipment/ installation which requires the correct equipment/ training and insurance.

Another issue with petrol stations is that you need a good quality picture of the driver, too. It's not the car that commits the offence! This means that you want two cameras - one for ANPR and one for the driver. ANPR is a specialist area - you can get away with a decent mega-pixel camera and NVR for less than five figures but it won't have the database stuff. There are carpark/barrier systems that do - I'll see if I can find out more...

a long time ago I had my number plates front and rear stolen, and we were pulled by the police a few times because of the crimes the other folk were committing using our plates.

mainly filling up and driving off. scary being boxed in by several police cars.

What do you need the system to do exactly?

Ie what do you need the ANPR to interface with to recall previously recorded incidents?

Images of the driver/ passenger is useful especially if they are on stolen/fake plates.

Avigilon 3 or 5 megapixel bullet camera, server/nvr, enterprise licence with the ANPR option should work out at less than £5k plus installation. Generate alarms, email, trigger relays when the numberplate is recognised. 3Mp camera is better in low light but you can add some IR illuminators and go with 5Mp camera if you need the extra resolution (for, say, two pumps with a wider view). You dont need intrinsically safe kit if it's far enough away.

I'm just after options for my shop. Unfortunately it isn't my decision! I just wondered what is out there and what costs are involved. We currently just have a 16 camera standard DVR with 4 cameras covering the 6 pumps. You can't see any faces when the sun shines and registrations are very hard to read.

I'd love a spike plate either side of the pump which retracts when payment is made. A barrier would do as well, it'd put off most criminals, but then again it might put off genuine customers too.
