Bought a SD card reader from Argos. After plugging into computer got a funny smell (burning) so looked at the screen and the computer had died.

Had to get engineers report on computer, yes they said the motherboard is dead due to the faulty cable on the card reader.

Argos now tell me that my computer was worth 50 Euro before I plugged their faulty cable into it?

Funny that, because I cant find any computers in their catalogue for 50 Euro?

Sue the ba****d's. How can any computer be worth only 50 euros? Before their faulty product rendered it inoperable? Put in a claim, also you want redress for the emails you've lost, lack of access to sites where you pay your bills online,,,,, And most importantly,,,,,, loss of access to your favourite porn sites. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

I'm surprised a USB fault can wreck a whole computer. You can get a PCI USB expansion card for £12.24 .

Are you going to tell us how old it was?

Sorry I should have said, the computer is 5 years old.

I would have thought that their engineer would have suggested a USB card replacement.

Is it a P4 by any chance, possibly using an Intel 8 series chipset?
