I chose to try and plane the edges of my attic trapdoor, after I cut it down to size and added hinges, as per the instructions of the attic ladder that I got from B&Q, and now it's a bit wavy since I didn't secure the workpiece, I bought a really cheap block plane, and I'm a buffoon.

I can make the wavy bits square and straight of course, through the use of a square and some kind of saw, but then I'll be left with an estimated 10mm gap all the way around the trapdoor.

So the question is, what material can I use as a 'gasket' to fill that gap...?

The objective of course being to keep heat from escaping into the attic in the winter, and to stop giant spiders from coming down to hang-out with me in the summer.
