We're thinking of relocating to a more sensible part of the world...or at least somewhere the weather's a bit better!

Just wondering if there are any on here with experience of properties in Oz - what construction types work best, anything in particular to look out for etc.

e.g. My girlfriend's brother (who lives in Sydney) seems to think that cavity walls as in the UK (brick outer, block inner) are not standard?

Any advice greatly appreciated

Cheers

I think you start with the roof, and build upwards to the foundations.

a lot of them are timber frame with brick veneer, hence not cavity walls

they generally don't use insulation (but it is handy, especially in the loft, to keep the heat out)

often have 3-phase supplies due to long overhead lines for cookers and air con

piped gas is rare

country districts often have ramshackle buildings

Thanks guys - we're looking at Sydney in the suburbs at the moment so hopefully not too many shacks there - not for 600k Au$!

I would've thought given the hot climate insulation/thick walls were a bit of a must have?
