Hi there, does anyone know wether you can take a course of bricks out below damp to fit aluminium bifold doors so that there is no step?

Yes you can.

The last extension we built, that required bi-folds, was done just like this.

We left off the last two courses of brick (external leaf) until the manufacturer gave us the height dimension up to lintel.

This actually meant having to put a brick-on-edge in place of the two regular courses to achieve the correct height.

Did you still put dpc along the brick on edge and if you did,did you lap it up into the 3rd course dpc?

The idea of a DPC is that is forms a physical barrier to rising damp and that it is in a suitable location to avoid bridging

So yes you can run it up down or where you like as long as it is continuous and will not be bridged

If you lower the DPC below floor level, then you need to a suitable barrier between the internal floor and external wall - which would typically mean using a wide DPC and lapping it up or down to join with the floor DPM
