Folks,

just put the handles on my kitchen cupboards and thought I'd pass on info about this. Its a piece of plastic with loads of holes that lets you mark out door handle positions really easilly and it only costs £2, only 2 things wrong with it

1 - it's from Ikea so you can't pop out to the nearest DIY store
2 - it's a bit on the short side*

*if you're using long handles mounted horizontally mark the centre of the door near the horizontal edge (ie stick a bit of masking tape in the middle) then position the edge of the template at the centre mark and measure out the required no of holes.

Came across it by accident in Ikea last week, saw a similar thing in B&Q today but their version looks like it's a grid and doesn't have holes in it.

Hope it helps

Looks good. Where in Ikea did you find it? Was it in the marketplace section or was it in the kitchen showroom? (or somewhere else!)

It was hanging on a rack in the kitchen showroom area, think there were handles, hinges and other stuff

B&Q do the same thing for their IT kitchen range, complete with grid and rulers.

When I did my kitchen (many handles to be fitted at the same height) I just drilled new holes in the template where I wanted the handles, then lined it up with the top corner of the doors and marked the hole positions with a pencil ready for drilling.

Saved a LOAD of time and not a single error, all handles exactly the same height and offset - perfik !

Yea, the Ikea thing worked well for us, probably cos we'd 9 different combinations of handle position ( 300, 400, 500 & 600 base & wall units + 1 350 corner wall unit).

Sounds like either option makes the job a lot easier.
