Block paving / flags over existing concrete path?

Howdy doo.

As the summer appears to be on its last fart, I was thinking of having a bash at the front yard.

There is a concrete path running from the front gate up to the front door and round the side of the house. It's all one, poured slab and is fine and solid - no cracks. Would it work as a sound base for either block pavers or patio slabs if I just whop down some mortar straight onto the concrete and bed them down?

paving slabs will be fine, block paving will be a bit more of a fiddle

Remember your finished ground level should be 150mm below damp.
