Boiler - intermittant whine

When our Ideal Classic HE18 kicks in it whines intermittantly. It's been suggested that it could be the fan.

Seen the part advertised for £111 (inc VAT).

How long is a piece of string - or should I ask how could I be expected to pay for one to be replaced?

I haven't tried to get any quotes yet.

You could always try searching round in hope of finding someone to do it FOC.

Before spending that much on a fan, I would want to be SURE that it is the fan at fault, and not a suggestion that it "could be".
