When my boiler switches off because the required temperature has been reached, there is a sound like water rushing up from the boiler, followed by loud banging from the pipes. I've tried bleeding air from boiler and rads. Also noticed water coming up the vent pipe into the expansion tank. Would descaling cure this?

Your system is pumping over, the sound you can here is because the system is dry, i.e no water. Turn your pump speed down to number 2 on the speed selector on the side of the pump. Also, check your header tank is full of water. Basically, you're system is sucking air in down the open vent pipe, and pumping up the cold feed.

It's a Baxi boiler.
Pump is alreday set to 2 and header tank is full fo water.
How do I get water into the system?
