Bosch Classixx washing machine - soap scum

soap scum or brown sludge builds up on the outside of the steel drum - how can I get rid of this sludge? I've tried using washing machine cleaners on empty load cycle but to no avail.

i am not going to ask hhow comyou know its on the outside of the drum/ have you tried a 40 degree wash with washing soda? (1/2 a packet)

I peeled back the rubber collar and looked inside and could see the sludge.

I've always used either 30 or 40 degrees, maybe you're right - I could use a high temperature wash cycle without clothes and put in half a packet
