How did you check whether the water is getting hot or not?
If not getting hot the machine should either, extend the wash time to hours or not progress through the cycle.
Musty smell to the clothes? If it is then you need to carry out maintenance washes on the machine to get rid of the build up of old soap and body fats.

thanks for reply, in answer to the question ,how do i know water isnt heating, we put it on a cycle with no clothes and a bit of bleach to give a clean and kept touching glass on door throuout and it seemed that the water whas not hot?, regarding doing a maintenance wash to rid the machine of build upof body fats, could you advise on how to dothat, plus if it as been suggested the heater element or programme malfunction, any body know of rough price for repair expected, cheers

The only way to really tell if the water is hot is to check it at the discharge hose. As your machine went right through the program I very much doubt it's not heating.

For maintenance washes, put an aerial tablet into the drum, no laundry, and run the machine through it's hottest wash. You'll have to do this a few times to get it clean again. Once cleaned, continue with a maintenance wash on a regular basis.

whats wrong with

a) feeling the glass

b) open soap drawer and listen

?

thats was how we dis it to check. (after changing element)

On cooler washes you won't feel any heat. Boil wash probably, anything less and it's still cool. Not like the old days when the water was half way up the door, now there's just a small puddle in the bottom of the drums.
