hi everyone, hope you can help me with this prob.i am in the early stages of planning a two storey extension to the side of our property, due to expanding family.we are discussing it with the architect, and he is suggesting that to have first floor access we pinch a bit of space from one of the bedrooms to make a passage, rather than access the extension through the bedroom.we were thinking of putting a new staircase in the extension and accessing it though a door in the living room.would building regs be okay with this or will they insist on access on both levels?also, how involved are building regs likely to be?are they fairly relaxed,or are they going to be breathing down our necks all the time?thanks for your help.

If your architect knows his job and designs it correctly for you then bc should cause you no problems, after all thats what you are paying him for .

You are going to have problems conforming to means of escape requirements with your proposal.

Ask your designer.

The BCO will check that your work conforms to the approved plans, and that any deviation from the plans conforms to the required regulations. They will do their job - especially where safety issues are concerned
