Hi,

My cooker has stopped working, and, having taken the front off the cooker control unit, I can see that one of the wires between the CCU and the cooker itself has burnt and broken. It's fairly well burnt - the insulation is all flaky, and there are big black burn marks around it.

My question is - is this likely to be something that I can fix just by replacing the CCU? Or does it indicate something wrong inside the cooker - in which case, I need to get someone out who knows about cookers.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Probably the connection was not tight enough and over time heated up.

If you have enough wire then cut back all the burnt insulation until you get to bright copper and reconnect it to a NEW cooker unit. The old one will be burnt so dont try and use it.

Just to reinforce what TTC said, you must only connect to BRIGHT copper.

Any sign of the copper having been warm at all, and you will not get a sound joint, and it will fail again.
