I am fully aware that cables should not be run in cavity walls, as the aim is to ensure that water can not get to the inside wall.

So... hypothetically speaking, (as I am not doing this, only curious) how would someone connect an external cable - e.g. SWA cable terminated in an appropriate box fixed to the outside wall, to the supply inside, without contravening this fundamental principle?

thanks in advance chaps,
great website,
very funny too!

There's a difference between making a hole and running cables between the walls.

Running a cable route between the walls over 15" or so cannot be supported (clipped etc), may touch the inside walls in the cavity at various points and breaks down the air gap between the two.

Penetrating the walls as a through route is acceptable. On the outside, depending on cable run a drip loop should be provided and the hole should have an incline (from outside to inside) to prevent water running along the cable, the drip loop is intended to prevent water building up at the external entry point- especially when the cable runs down the wall to the entry point.
