Hi all
Long time diy not forum reader and diy enthusiast
Hoping for some help with a query

I'm looking to knock down an internal wall that currently makes up a shower room in a first room bedroom

The room is part of a side extension done before we bought the house

The shower room is rectangular , built from block in the corner of room

I've been in the loft , access isn't great into space but I've measured up and concluded that the ceiling joists run parallel to longest shower room wall , but are not supportive as joists run all the way across room

My question is there is a vertical post that is roughly in the middle of the loft space that sits upon the wall I want to remove

I will attach a picture as soon as I can

The roof joists span the entire structure
Will the roof be receiving support from this vertical?
Is that why the internal shower room is made from block instead of stud?

The house is late 60-70s

Any advice appreciated
I'm fairly diy competent and will undertake most jobs myself but safety first :)

Have had some advice from a builder friend as I typed
That post stops roof from spreading
So I guess I'm looking at putting some wood across screwed to roof angles halfway down?

No; a vertical post will not stop the roof from spreading.
It might possibly be a purlin or hip prop, which is a different matter.
Or it could just be a simple ceiling joist hanger, which is not much of a problem.
A good pic or three would help here.
