Canon TS3355 Black Printing Failure

I have the above machine and have downloaded the Printer Driver Vers.5.90 for Linux (Debian packagearchive)
along with Scangear MP Vers 3.90 for Linux (Debian packagearchive).
Both these have appeared in the software but the printer does not print, the Black button just flashes.
Do I need to do something else before the printer reacts?

Go and buy a decent printer. My experience of printers is that anything cheap is a load of old crap, you paid I guess about £30, think about it, it needs parts to be designed and manufactured, then assembled, no doubt some by manual labour, packaged and then shipping to the UK, then driven to a warehouse then probably to another before finally reaching you, paying all of the various suppliers and couriers in the chain, you've probably got about £3 of actual printer. Lest we forget the manufactures spending a few quid on 'software'.

I'm no longer as young as I used to be and really just need a reliable B & White simple machine.
Any recommendations would be helpful.

Offices get refurbed, and the old machines are often as not given away. These machines last forever.
