CH comes on with HW

Hi I'm new here . I had trouble with the radiators coming on when hot water only is selected.I fitted a new 3 way valve and took each radiator of 1 by 1 and flushed all the gunge out.
The valve motor responds when settings are selected and I can move the valve spindle freely with my fingers .
If you look at the valve from the top which position does the D have to be in for A-central heating B hot water only C both together.
I ask this as I cant seem to get it to run without the radiators coming on.
